Malawi children
In August this year, a team of twelve church members are setting off to Malawi, to help with practical work on church buildings and housing.

Everything will be done "by hand" - there is no mechanisation or machinery of any kind - mainly because there is simply no electricity!

The Broadwater Baptist Family Centre will be sending the team out - just look at the map in our Malawi page- the distance is 5000 miles (8000Km for those who prefer metric measures!)

Our church family

We are glad that you have found our church website, and whether you are just browsing or looking to visit us, we hope you will experience something of the warmth of God’s love and of our fellowship. We would love to meet you sometime and hope that this web page gives you a brief introduction as to who and where we are.

This summer our minister is joining a church team aiming to Make a Difference in Malawi and swapping churches with another  minister from Oklahoma! Click here to open a schedule of service events for the rest of the year in pdf format.

A Council-funded Children and Family Centre has now opened on church premises, costing thousands, but largely funded by the local council.

Inspired by the challenge to act as “salt and light”, our church has revamped buildings and salaried, dedicated staff appointed to make something good happen in this  area. Working in partnership with the West Sussex County Council we are now a Children and Family Centre.

Our new ‘Wave Centre’ is open to local families, helping with education, employment, health and childcare.

Of course the legal arrangements have been fraught with lots of ‘small print’ issues, the practicalities of sharing open buildings have meant creativity and sacrifice on the part of the church and the questions as to what can – and cannot – happen on church-owned property have been a minefield. For example: the Council  wanted all religions to feel appreciated and welcomed – so we compromised and the church members will allow education of other religions, but not celebration; some people felt that continuing to refer to a building as a church can be off putting to some – therefore a new name has evolved – The Wave Centre. So now the cappuccino machine is installed and the internet café will soon be switched on.

A Children and Family Centre is a part of the Government’s ‘Every child matters’ initiative to bring together some of the many agencies offering support to families, especially those with pre-school children.  Several Centres will be set up around the county, most in school-bounded areas.
